Ponta da Piedade – one of Lagos’ most iconic beauty spots – is to get a €2.5 million revamp to make it “even more attractive and accessible to visitors”.
Lagos council is seeking community funding through the FEDER programme for regional development which, with luck, will come up with 60% of the money.
The idea is to construct walkways and viewing points to promote guided trips of the landmark overlooking Dona Ana beach and its stunning rock formations.
Integral in the plan is an “interpretation centre” to commemorate Portuguese writer and poet Sophia de Mello Breyner who “loved” the windswept promontory.
Says Correio da Manhã, the council is hoping to revamp the whole area – running from Dona Ana all the way to Ponta da Piedade – so that nature tourism is promoted as much as possible.
