Over €10,400 was raised in the Algarve for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR), an international motorcycle fundraising event organised annually to raise awareness about prostate cancer and men’s mental health issues.
The Algarve, where 338 people took part in the ride, was the second region in Portugal that raised the most funds, beaten only by Lisbon where a total of €10,933 was raised.
Still, the average donation per participant in the Algarve was the largest in Portugal – around €30.
The ride included a stop at Loulé’s Mar Shopping Algarve, which between September 10 and October also hosted a total of 245 prostate cancer screenings as part of the initiative.
Herman Gewert, general manager of Mar Shopping Algarve, was again delighted to support the event.
“We wanted the shopping centre to be more than just a stopover for the DGR, we wanted to be an active partner; we feel overwhelmed by the response and generosity of our clients,” he said, feeling proud that the shopping centre has helped to raise awareness about men’s health issues and vowed to continue investing in similar initiatives in the future.
