€10 million to rebuild storm-battered beach bars

Beach bars and restaurants damaged by January and February’s storms can now apply for rebuilding finance to be provided by Portugal’s hoteliers association AHRESP and the national tourism board, Turismo de Portugal.
The two entities have joined forces and put together a €10 million fund to revive battered establishments before the summer season.
Fully aware that the clock is running, the application process for aid has been kept simple. All projects will be accepted and applicants will be given an answer to rebuilding bids within five working days.
“AHRESP is very worried about the upcoming holiday season and is asking the government and other public entities to promote the security and urgent redevelopment of the public areas affected by this year’s harsh weather, so that our coastline can maintain its appropriate conditions,” said the association.
A series of meetings designed to inform businesses about the financing opportunities has already taken place, the last of which was in Faro on April 9 at the local tourism and hoteliers school.
