The E. Leclerc supermarket in Parchal will close its doors on November 19, leaving 34 workers unemployed.
A spokesman for the group told the Algarve Resident: “The decision to close was due to a decline in turnover of 42 per cent since the store’s opening in 2007.”
He added that the economic situation in the country, and especially in the region, makes the store “economically unviable for the future”.
He said the employees affected by the closure had already contacted the Algarve Institute for Employment to seek alternative job opportunities.
