Dutch tourist found dead at bottom of Carvoeiro cliff

A 36-year-old Dutch holidaymaker who apparently had gone out for a morning run was found dead at the base of a cliff in the coastal area of Algar Seco in Carvoeiro, Lagoa on Saturday (May 20).

According to Correio da Manhã tabloid, the man was on holiday with his wife and baby son.

His body was found at 10.30am and identified a few hours later after his wife – worried that he had not returned – got in touch with authorities.

According to CM, the body had some injuries which “could have been caused by the fall”. The paper adds that there was no “visible injury that could be singled out as the cause of death”.

An autopsy is due to take place “which could provide more clues”. The incident is under investigation by PJ criminal police.
