A walk along the cliffs near the Cape St Vincent lighthouse in Sagres ended in tragedy after a Dutch tourist fell into the sea and died on April 2.
The victim, a man aged 62, died after falling from a height of about 40 metres.
According to the commander of the Lagos Port Authority, the victim suffered multiple fractures and it is believed that the fall caused his immediate death.
Several people witnessed the tragedy and alerted the authorities, with the rescue team getting to the body within half-an-hour.
Cruz Martins, commander of the Lagos Port Authority, told the Algarve Resident: “We don’t know what the cause of the accident was, but the autopsy carried out by the Legal Institute of Medicine will be able to determine this.”
A spokesman from the Lagos Public Ministry told the Algarve Resident that the results of the autopsy would take 30 days or longer to be released.
