A 60-year-old Dutch woman had to be taken to hospital after being attacked by a dog on Monte Gordo beach in Vila Real de Santo António. National tabloid Correio da Manhã says the holidaymaker was walking on a boardwalk at around 5.30pm on Friday, November 11, when the attack occurred.
She was bitten on her leg and taken to Faro Hospital due to fears of a tendon injury but was released later that night.
Maritime police were called after the attack but the dog could not be located.
According to the woman’s testimony, the medium-sized dog was loose and of a “breed deemed dangerous”.
CM added that the holidaymaker hasn’t filed a complaint yet but can do so in the next six months.
