Ricardo Santos enjoyed mixed fortunes at the Volvo Golf Champions event in Durban last weekend.
The 30-year-old Portuguese No1 from Faro opened with a poor four above par 76, which saw him in last place at the half-way stage. His third effort of 65 represented a major improvement before ending the tournament in 28th place, 17 shots behind South African winner Louis Oosthuizen.
Meanwhile, back in the Algarve, João Carlota was the big winner of the first Portuguese Golf Federation Circuit tournament held on the Salgados course. The 21-year-old’s 144 par total was good enough to see off dual national amateur champion Gonçalo Pinto by one stroke while junior Mafalda Santos emerged victorious from a play-off also involving Bárbara Neto-Bradley in the ladies event.
