Durão Barroso’s wife dies of cancer

Margarida Sousa Uva, the wife of former PSD prime minister Durão Barroso, who went on to become president of the European Commission, has died today from cancer, a source close to the family has told Lusa.

The source added that the 60-year-old mother-of-three who married José Manuel Durão Barroso in 1980 had been battling cancer since 2014.

She died at home.
