A Columbian drugs baron, 66, known as “El Doctor” and hunted by the USA and Interpol, has been arrested by police in Portugal and will face trial along with four other accomplices at a court in Almada, south of Lisbon, for trafficking 340kgs of cocaine.
He was detained in Costa da Caparica after a lengthy combined operation by the authorities.
The five accused are now in preventive custody awaiting the start of the trial in the Portuguese courts on October 8.
