Ten drug smugglers were arrested in Lagos and 1,800 kilos of hashish confiscated in a large combined operation involving the Portuguese and Spanish authorities.
The detentions followed an operation named ‘Operação Carisa’, which started in October 2011 and aimed at a clampdown on illegal drugs transported from Morocco into Algarvian and Spanish ports.
An overall total of 21 arrests were made and 2,600 kilos of hashish was seized at the various marinas in Cádiz, Málaga and Lagos.
In Lagos, five vehicles and three pleasure boats used to transport the drugs were also apprehended.
