Drug mules with “hashish in their intestines” arrested on A22

Three men – two of whom were found to be smuggling drugs in their intestines – were arrested by GNR police at a petrol station on the Algarve’s A22 highway in the early hours of last Thursday morning (October 1).

It was the trio’s “suspicious behaviour” that led a citizen to call police, who “immediately suspected that the men could be carrying drugs in their bodies”.

At Faro Hospital, police confirmed that two of the suspects “expelled enough hashish for 21,250 individual doses”.

Ensuing house searches saw GNR police confiscate “two cars, four cell phones, 1,340 Moroccan dirham (€120), €20 in EU money” and other drug-related paraphernalia.

The men were detained to appear in court.
