Four individuals were arrested recently in two separate drug busts in the Barlavento and Sotavento regions. The authorities seized a total of 1,500 doses of illegal drugs, which included substances such as cocaine, heroin and hashish. The first police operation took place in the infamous Bairro do Palácio in Portimão, which is know as the drug capital of the Barlavento region. Three African men, between the ages of 27 and 48, were suspected of possessing and dealing illegal substances in the area. The raid by officers from Portimão PSP resulted in the seizure of 305 doses of heroin, 156 of cocaine and 10 of hashish. Two individuals have been sent to prison and another individual is awaiting trial.
In a separate incident, the Criminal Investigation Squad in Faro arrested a 17-year-old teenager for possessing and consuming illegal drugs. Apparently, the authorities noticed the young man smoking what seemed to be a cigarette that contained hashish on a public street. When they searched the suspect, police officers found 40 doses of hashish in the young man’s pocket and another 960 doses of hashish at his home. The boy was released on bail and has to report to the PSP headquarters every week until further notice.
