Drought reduces EDP’s Iberian hydroelectric output by 53%

Electricity production at EDP’s hydroelectric plants on the Iberian Peninsula fell 53% in the first nine months of the year due to drought, although overall production increased 6% due to an increase in renewables and thermal generation. In a statement sent to Portugal’s  Securities and Exchange Commission (CMVM) today, EDP reported that “hydro generation in the Iberian market fell 53%, (3.3 terawatt-hours (TWh) below expectations), partially offset by an increase in Iberian thermal generation, which increased by 80% or 5.6 TWh year-on-year.
