Drink-driving still “most common crime” in Algarve

Despite all the public awareness campaigns, drink-driving is still the crime that tops the list of the Algarve’s charge sheets.

In the first three months of 2016, 452 people were prosecuted after being caught driving over the legal limit.

According to the region’s Public Prosecutor’s office, the next most common crime is driving without a licence, followed by offences against people’s “physical integrity” (132), thefts (100) and other cases of disobedience (82).

Most charges were filed in Albufeira (426), Loulé (376), Faro (353) and Portimão (279), which together account for 80% of all the region’s recorded crimes.
