Drama Supper at the International School of the Algarve

MORE THAN 60 parents, friends, and teachers were entertained recently by the Year 10 Drama GCSE group at Porches International School during the annual Drama Supper.

Guests enjoyed their picnic supper while they watched a variety of drama and dance performances, which included the best of the Year 10 Drama work from their drama lessons this academic year. These included polished improvisations based on She’s Leaving Home and The Lift, where a number of unlikely hospital visitors get stuck between floors. Students also performed more difficult works from My Fair Lady and other plays and monologues.

The highlights of the evening were the Victorian Melodrama, which was accompanied by John Butterworth on piano and the two dance sequences, Greased Lightening performed by all the boys and Cell Block Tango performed by five of the girls of Year 10.

Guests were pleasantly surprised at the talent displayed by the Drama Group, as were the teachers who hardly recognised the students they taught every day when they saw them performing on stage. The Drama Group have received excellent feedback from the evening and this has boosted their confidence enormously, which is one of the aims of this Drama Supper.

The students enjoyed performing it as much as the audience enjoyed watching it. All the doubt and shyness of performing in front of an audience disappeared as soon as they set foot on stage. All the students rose to the occasion and performed their parts the best they ever have since they started to rehearse for this performance in April. They enjoyed it so much they wish they could do another performance like it.

Elaine Evans, the school’s drama teacher, was full of praise and is expecting this group to achieve excellent grades in their GCSE examinations next year.
