A rural fire broke out this afternoon near São Marcos da Serra in Silves.
A total of 28 firefighters, aided by five fire trucks and a helicopter, were dispatched after receiving an alert at 4.16pm and were able to swiftly bring the flames under control.
In fact, it is believed the firefighters’ quick response was critical to preventing the spread of the flames, especially as strong winds were blowing at the time.
According to the national civil protection website, the blaze is now in a “phase of conclusion”.
The fire broke out in a brushland area in Monte das Pitas, near the small town of São Marcos da Serra.
