Downpours causes flooding in Lisbon

Downpours all over the country provoked flooding on Monday afternoon, with some of the worst incidents reported in the capital. Traffic ground to a halt and in some cases pedestrians were left crossing roads knee-deep in floodwater as chairs and tables got caught up in the maelstrom. At lunchtime, firemen were reported to be dealing with at least eight floods in different parts of the city.
