Douro institute sells 26 massive casks of wine dating back to 1934

The trouble-beset administrative commission of Casa do Douro – the syndical base for Douro wine-growers – has decided to put up 26 massive casks of wine, dating back to 1934, to raise more than half a million euros. The idea is to use the proceeds of the sale to cover operating costs and “resolve issues that are in litigation”. The casks correspond to six fortified wines of different ages (1934, 1935, 1940, 1950 and 1968) and also old wine, classified as 30 years old. Each of the 26 barrels holds 550 litres of wine, says Lusa.
