Portimonense have the opportunity to make up ground in the Liga Orangina league table over the next fortnight.
Manager Carlos Mozer used the free Cup weekend to fine-tune his team with a 3-1 friendly win over neighbours Lagoa before taking on Aves in Portimao on Sunday.
That match is followed by a visit to Freamunde next weekend and, given the quality of that opposition, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the club will be eying one of the two promotion places come Christmas.
