Double faults

The Algarve did not enjoy much success on the tennis courts last week.

The region’s current best hope of succeeding former Portuguese men’s No1 Rui Machado, 19-year-old ATP 576th ranked André Gaspar Murta from Tavira, lost his first round Future encounter in Cyprus 6-4, 6-4 to England’s George Morgan.

Subsequently, the Faro Tennis Club’s men’s team was whitewashed at the National Championships held at the Open Village Sports complex in Mesão Frio, losing 5-0 to eventual overall winners Caldas da Rainha.
