Unfortunately the likes of Greg Rusedski, Henri Leconte or John MacEnroe will not be contesting the Vale do Lobo Grand Champions title next month.
Organisers Premier Sports have been forced to cancel the popular ATP Senior Tour tournament, due to have been held between August 9 and 11, following the last minute withdrawal of its principal sponsors.
One of the most recognizable Algarve sporting events during the height of summer, the Grand Champions was to celebrate its eleventh successful edition until the news broke. Premier Sports, responsible for the equally prestigious São Paulo version held in Brazil earlier this year and won by Carlos Moya, are determined to make every effort to ensure the return of the tournament to the Algarve in 2012 – hopefully with the assistance of the Portuguese Tourism Board.
