Don’t forget your poppy

The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal takes place this year from Saturday, October 28 to Saturday, November 11.

The Remembrance Service in the Algarve will be held at 10.45am on Sunday, November 12 at St. Luke’s Church Palhagueira near Santa Bárbara de Nêxe, when wreaths will be laid by the British Consul and members of the Algarve Branch of the Royal British Legion.

At Remembrancetide the British Community throughout the world keeps the faith with those who died for the freedom we enjoy today. The visible representation of that support is the wearing of a poppy and the keeping of the two minute silence at 11am on November 11.

Throughout the Algarve, poppies are being distributed, 22,000 to date and the list of locations where they are available can be found on the website www.portugal.legionbranches.net and select Local Poppy Appeal. This site will be updated throughout the appeal.

The need for the British community to support the Poppy Appeal is as important today as it was following the World Wars.

Further information may be obtained from the Algarve Chairman of the Royal British Legion, Peter Wilkinson, on 289 791 699. Poppy Appeal collectors will be at Faro Airport from 8am to midday every day from Saturday, October 28 to Saturday November 11.
