Donkeys leave for the UK

Donkeys from the Refúgio dos Burros donkey sanctuary in Estômbar began their long journey to their new home in North Devon in the UK on Tuesday.

The four donkeys, Castanho, Nuno, Omega and Laura, were given microchips and checked over by local vet Michael Dias before being loaded into the trailer.

Chris and Elaine Mugleston, who will be re-homing the donkeys when they reach the UK (see the Algarve Resident edition of January 2), have already imported rescued mules and donkeys from Portugal in the past.

“We love donkeys,” said Chris Mugleston. “They are easy to look after, especially as we live on a farm with a farrier next door.”
