Domestic violence returns to pre-pandemic levels

Crimes of domestic violence have returned to pre-pandemic levels this year, according to official data released by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality. On average PSP and GNR police receive 80 complaints a day, almost four an hour. Between January 1 and June 30 there were no less than 14,363 complaints of domestic violence – the highest number received in the last four years. In the six month period 16 women and one child have been murdered in the context of domestic violence.
