Two striped dolphins, an adult female and her calf, were found by fishermen in the Ria Formosa, Sapal, near Olhão, on March 12.
However, four hours of effort by the fishermen and technicians from the Ria Formosa Park failed to prevent the death of the calf, which had become distressed after being separated from its mother.
Although everything possible was done to return both dolphins to the open sea, the calf did not follow its mother and died.
