A dog that had been left abandoned on a balcony for several days was rescued by GNR police and firefighters in Lourosa, Santa Maria da Feira, on Tuesday morning (December 19).
Authorities were alerted by worried neighbours who noticed that the dog was on its own.
“It’s disgraceful to leave an animal to starve in the cold all this time without food,” a neighbour said, cited by Jornal de Notícias.
“I don’t know how someone can treat an animal like this.”
The animal had to be rescued from the outside of the apartment building as no one answered the door.
Neighbours added that this is a “recurring situation” as it apparently was not the first time the dog was left on its own for so long.
According to JN, GNR police in Lourosa were due to forward the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
