An anaesthetist at Lisbon’s Oncology Institute (IPO) is accused of having slapped a five-year-old cancer patient.
Correio da Manhã newspaper reports the incident happened yesterday (February 25) between 11am-midday as the boy was getting ready for a series of tests.
Says the newspaper, the doctor slapped the child when he became “restless and noisy”.
She quickly apologised, saying she was “nervous and overworked”.
However, the child’s parents quickly complained to IPO via email and have said they intend to file an official complaint against the doctor this week.
Lisbon’s IPO has confirmed to CM that it is investigating the case and that the anaesthetist’s alleged conduct is “the complete opposite” of what is demanded of professionals.
