Do something different with your hair this Christmas

CHRISTMAS IS the perfect time of year to experiment a little with your hair – what with all the parties to attend; it’s fun to try something a little different, dramatic even. Now don’t go and lop off all your hair… I’m talking just a change of style!

Most of us stick to the same ‘do’ throughout the year, rarely changing it, usually because of time and practicality, but give yourself an extra half an hour to get ready and make an effort. If you have long hair and it’s usually down, have an ‘updo’– or vice versa.

If you can’t quite manage to do a chignon yourself, a simple bun is easy to do and looks just as classy. To have your locks down, dry thoroughly and create some waves for extra oomph. Think of that fantastic retro look that belongs to none other than diva, Dita Von Teese.

Steer clear of the sleek, overly straightened long hair that has been done to death over recent years – this is the season for full on texture and vivaciousness. If you are tight on time, simply wash your hair, towel dry as much as you can, massage in some mousse and then tip your head forward and dry with a hairdryer and diffuser to obtain maximum volume.

The bob

Short haired ladies could try experimenting with a little gel or mousse for example – how about some soft spikes, even? If you’re not quite brave enough for that, scrunch with a texturising spray and then add some sparkle using fabulous accessories. Hair bands and tiaras, for example, are big business this season.

If you do want a bit of a snip, why not go for this year’s hottest look – the bob? Popularised by the likes of Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham, this versatile style can range from ear length to shoulder skimming. It’s best for straight or slightly wavy hair and is perfect for fine hair because it adds fullness.
