Divers survey Corvo island main port after waves take three containers

Divers on Corvo, the smallest island in the Azores, have carried out a survey of the access to and the interior of the Porto da Casa, the island’s commercial port and its largest, after a large wave tossed three empty containers into the sea during storm Oscar, only one of which has been recovered. The so-called ‘Oscar weather system’, which battered the island of São Miguel this week, also worsened weather conditions on Corvo, causing the port to be swamped by the sea, with its captain ordering its closure to ships and coordinating the security operation.
