Divers against coastal debris

Divers in the Algarve are coming together on September 17 to take part in the International Beach and Underwater Clean Up Day.

This year three local dive centres will “Dive Against Debris” as part of their commitment to protecting the oceans.

Dive Time in Lagos, Algarve Divexperience in Praia do Carvoeiro and Easy Divers in Albufeira will all be working together, not only to clean up the beaches and sea but also to raise awareness about the importance of marine conservation.

There will be two clean-ups organised by Dive Time at Ponte da Piedade Caves and at Ancoras, Algarve Divexperience will be doing clean ups at Praia do Pintadinho and Algar Seco while Easy Divers will be doing clean ups by boat along the reefs of Pedra do Gomes, Cela and Balanciais.

As part of the initiative, the dive centres in the Algarve are looking for volunteer scuba divers, preferably with advanced diving certification, to help with the underwater clean-up while non divers are also needed to take part in the beach clean-up.

There is no charge for equipment rental or boat trips but divers will need to collect equipment from the appropriate dive centres.

Those interested in taking part need to register their interest before September 15. For further information, please contact either [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected]
