On a warm, sunny and breezy evening, over 100 Rotarians from various clubs of the Rotary 1960 District and guests met together at Rosario near Moita for the Handover from District Governor José Coelho to Incoming District Governor Luis-Miguel Duarte.
DG José stated that much had been achieved in his term of office, it had been a lot of work but had been very enjoyable.
He was most grateful for the support which he had received from his team as well as from all the clubs in the 1960 District. He thanked all those who had travelled to Moita for the event and said it had been an honour and a pleasure to serve Rotary as a District Governor and he made special mention of the clubs who had been effective in making changes for the betterment of Rotary.
Luis-Miguel Duarte, District Governor for 2012/2013, spoke of the tasks ahead including Rotary’s ongoing attack to eradicate Polio throughout the world.
There are still a few countries where Polio can still easily be caught; these include Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He congratulated all the clubs on the large sums of money which have already been raised. Luis-Miguel also spoke of the wonderful opportunity to celebrate Rotary worldwide in 2013 when the International Convention will be held in Lisbon.
