Mar Shopping Algarve in Loulé is once again supporting the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, an international charity event which “unites classic and vintage-style motorcycle riders all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health”.
Around 130,000 riders take part in the event in over 700 cities in 110 countries.
For around one month, Mar Shopping will host a series of events in support of the initiative including free prostate cancer screenings through blood tests, which will be carried out at the shopping centre’s HPA clinic between September 10 and October 20.
The centre will also host a photo exhibition of last year’s event between September 10 and 29 as well as an exhibition of classic and vintage motorbikes.
On the weekend of September 14 and 15, tattoo artist Paulo Badinha will be hosting live sessions between 11am and 9pm for anyone who wants to support the ‘DGS’ by getting ‘inked’.
The following weekend, barber João Paulino from The Barberhouse will be trimming, shaving and styling men’s hair and beards.
Later on, between September 23 and 28, there will be special discounts at The Barbers on the first floor of Mar Shopping Algarve.
Every event will encourage visitors to make a donation, which will go to the Movember Foundation, described as the “biggest international organisation for men’s health”.
On Sunday, September 29, Mar Shopping will see thousands of bikers who have embarked on the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride stopping at the shopping centre in a bid to raise money for the cause and awareness about male health.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa.
It was inspired by a photo of “Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit”.
Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives.
