PORTUGUESE SCIENTISTS have discovered how an enzyme is crucial in the development of Malaria.

The findings, published in the US scientific journal Cell Host & Microbe, follow a study carried out by the Lisbon Institute of Molecular Medicine, Malaria Unit, and researchers from the Gulbenkian Science Institute with German and American scientists.

“The study showed, for the first time, that a particular enzyme is essential in the initial phase of malarial infection in damaging the liver,” said researcher Maria Mota.
