There is much more to the Algarve’s transcendent beauty than just breathtaking beaches and the ocean. Beautiful landscapes that will make you fall in love with the area are hidden within a countryside that is full of lush fields and majestic hills. 2000 vineyards and nearly 30 wineries thrive in the Algarve’s fertile soil and lack of rain, amid these natural wonders.
Portugal has an important wine history – as early as in the 18th century, it was already exporting its wines to England. The wine region extends from all Portugal and all along the Algarve coast, with grapes such as Negra Mole growing on terraced vineyards and making for an exceptional wine.
The Algarve is also known for its Enoturismo (wine-tourism) – which is the appreciation of the flavor and aroma of a region’s wines alongside immersion in its traditions and cultures. It emerged from the combination of one of Europe’s most visited regions’ excellent wine supply with its tourism industry.
Wine route in the Algarve
Quinta dos Vales
Part of the wine route and located in the western heart of the Algarve, you’ll find the stunning Quinta dos Vales. This Wine Estate brings together the splendours of the Algarve’s natural beauty and a superior winery with a landscaped garden with art sculptures, an award-winning wine cellar, a panoramic terrace, and complete accommodations with terraces, large outdoor swimming pools and sports courts.
Fifteen different grape varieties are planted in the vineyard, resulting in a wide range of red, white and rosé wines, which you will be able to taste when you participate in the Quinta dos Vales wine tasting. Besides the solo wine tasting available, there are also other wine-related activities to indulge in, such as tours, workshops where you can make your own bottle of wine (and take it home with you), gastronomic experiences of tasting meals with wine pairings and much more.
And if you wish to up the ante, this Estate also created The Winemaker Experience – an amazing program that turns wine-lovers into wine-makers. Basically, what Quinta dos Vales offers is to guide participants through the full wine-production process, offering them their winery and consultancy, but encouraging them to make their very own wine, to their own preferences. You can learn all about the program here.
