Discover the secrets of the Algarve cataplana

Tradition || Now is your chance to learn more about one of the Algarve’s most traditional dishes – the cataplana, a delicious shellfish stew cooked in a copper clam-shaped pot.
On three separate days this month, Chef Augusto Lima will be showcasing the potential and the secrets of the cataplana, starting this Friday (September 5) at 7pm at the Mediterranean Diet Fair in Tavira.
The next demonstration is scheduled for Faro Airport at 10.30am on September 11, followed by the last of the run at Portimão’s Municipal Market, also at 10.30am on September 13.
The demonstrations are part of the Cataplana Algarvia project, which is being promoted by Tertúlia Algarvia and the regional tourism board (RTA).
The cataplana is a dish cooked in many areas of Portugal, but is most widely-appreciated in the Algarve, where seafood serves as its main ingredients. However, meats such as pork and lamb are also used in a number of recipes.
