Discover Portugal’s Belgian winemakers in new free digital book

A new digital book providing insight into nine Belgian winemakers who produce award-winning wines in Portugal is being offered for free by Guido Andries, a Belgian pensioner living in the Algarve.

“Due to the outstanding reputation of these winemakers, the super quality of their wines, and the international success they have with their wines, I felt I had to write a book in order to pay tribute to the outstanding job these guys are doing and to their reputation,” Guido told us.

As he explained, many foreign winemakers have been moving to Portugal with only one goal in mind: “to make top-of-the-bill wines”.

Among them are nine Belgians – two based in the Algarve (Monte do Além and Casa Bela Moura) – whose wines have not only won gold medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles but are also “very popular among a large crowd of wine lovers” and can be found at some of “the most renowned restaurants in Belgium”.

While there have been books written about Belgian winemakers in other locations such as Bordeaux and Italy, there are none about Belgian winemakers in Portugal.

Guido, a former journalist and self-described wine lover, decided to take matters into his own hands and started writing the book three years ago. It was completed in May and features 96 pages, including several “marvellous stories” about how these winemakers started making their own wines in Portugal.

As Louis Havaux, Founder of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, said about this new book: “Belgium has always been a country of wine lovers. This interest naturally also attracted them to viticulture. With passion, they have invested in several wine regions including Portugal and they are currently positioned among the best winegrowers in this country!”

This book is only available in the form of an internet link. All you have to do is send an email to [email protected] requesting a copy.
