Discotheques can open from today “but it is prohibited to dance”

With the country ‘opening up’ dependent on wider use of Covid Digital Certificates/ negative tests giving access to public events and services, discotheques have finally been allowed to reopen from today – as long as they function as if they were bars/ restaurants, and as long as no-one in them gets onto the dance floor. Tabloid Correio da Manhã explains this means clients must remain seated at all times (other than being allowed to and from their tables/ to use the rest rooms) with closing time at like bars/ restaurants at 2am. Unsurprisingly most establishments have chosen to remain closed until the ‘magic date’ of October 5 given by PM Costa as the moment these businesses can start functioning as discotheques (click here).
