Dear Editor,
I have a huge sympathy for Rachel Shepherd (regarding disabled parking – last week’s edition).
Recently I saw two young, fit men pull into a disabled space, simply because it suited them and the standard reply to this is “Não faz mal”. So what?
Selfish, yes, unthinking, yes, but I suspect, as with driving (pulling out without looking, no indicators etc), it really is that mainland Portuguese (rather than SA/Canada etc. Portuguese who are more westernised,) simply do not think that way; no brain pattern. It is not just selfishness – it is attitude.
