An Indian man who fathered seven daughters has not washed for 35 years, preferring instead to take fire baths by standing on one leg near a bonfire smoking marijuana and praying.
Kailash Singh, 63, who lives in a village outside of the Indian city of Varanasi, said he can’t remember how it all began but his hygiene regime was a commitment to the national protest.
“I’ll end this vow only when all problems confronting the nation end,” he said.
Kailash’s neighbours, however, say there was another reason for his washing boycott.
“A seer once told Kailash that if he does not take a bath, he would be blessed with a male child,” said one villager.
