On Friday, February 14 – Valentine’s Day – Direct Transport certainly shared their love with the Bombeiros in Silves.
They transported 10 pallets of much-needed equipment and uniforms which had been donated by the Hampshire fire and rescue services in the UK and delivered them to Silves free of charge. These pallets were made up of t-shirts, shoes, leggings, fleeces, tunics and much more. Kevin Thomas, Billy Edgley and myself arrived at midday at the fire station in Silves where we were met by Debby Burton from the Alerta para Incêndio Florestal association, António Nunes, commandant of the Silves Bombeiros, and other firefighters eagerly awaiting our arrival. When we opened the doors of our lorry and revealed 10 pallets of boxed goods, their eyes lit up.
As quick as we were unloading, they were opening the boxes to see what they had been given as if it was Christmas morning. It was wonderful to see such gratitude and excitement upon the faces of these truly humble firefighters. Commandant António Nunes could not thank us enough.
Direct Transport continues to support the Bombeiros in any way they can and are a registered drop-off point with “Alerta” for donations of much-needed supplies.
