Direct Transport was created 15 years ago by business partners Wendy Hallam and Christopher Stone.
They began with a small warehouse in Guia and the business has since grown to such an extent that there are now seven members of staff and five vehicles.
Having outgrown those premises, Direct Transport is now housed in two huge warehouses on the Vale Paraíso estate on the outskirts of Albufeira, the second of which was taken over last year. With more than 70 containers that are 90 per cent utilised all of the time, Wendy and Christopher certainly have their hands full.
“Personally, I really enjoy dealing with people, offering support when moving to a different country and building up confidence with them, which often leads to firm friendships,” said Wendy.
Direct Transport is already delivering into Spain most weeks. Chris is very keen to expand the service into Spain. Living close to the Spanish border, he is very happy to visit homes and make on-site estimations. “We intend to provide a reliable weekly service into Spain,” he said.
The two also credit much of their success to the team they have around them both in the UK and Portugal.
Offering a full transportation and delivery service from the depot located in Andover, Hampshire, it is easy to order online and have goods delivered there for forwarding to the Algarve and Spain.
Direct Transport can arrange everything from supplying of bubble wrap and boxes to advice on re-locating goods worldwide.
Their next project is to open premises close to the Spanish border – possibly Tavira or even Ayamonte if demand proves positive.
Businesses have also started using their warehouses as a storage facility.
