news: Dinner dance for Silves Bombeiros

FUNDRAISERS AND organisers Angela Schulz-Henke and Ray Bentley welcomed around 230 guests from England, Portugal, Germany, Holland and Switzerland to the Restaurant Ponte Romana, in Silves, for a dinner dance event in aid of Silves Bombeiros.

Thanks to the efforts of Silves Bombeiros Commandant António Nunes, vice-president Leopoldo Assunção and local businessman Arménio Dias, around 70 Portuguese from the local community were also present, which delighted Câmara President, Isabel Soares, who attended with family and friends. During the evening, she congratulated the organisers and thanked the guests for their fundraising efforts.

Commandant António Nunes was pleased that the local community are supportive in acknowledging the extraordinary efforts of the bombeiros, who receive little help from the government.

Thanks to the support from local companies and individuals, who gave items for the auction, tombola and raffle, more than 3,000 euros was raised, which will go towards the purchase of an urgently needed defibrillator machine.

Thanks also went to Pat Hutchinson and Norbert Beckschulte, who brought a large group of guests with them and continue to organise the purchasing and transportation of much needed equipment from England and Germany.
