‘Dignified Dying in Portugal’ seminars

Foreign residents association afpop is again holding the ‘Dignified dying in Portugal’ seminars, in cooperation with partner organisations Servilusa Funeral Agencies, Eduardo Serra Jorge and Maria José Garcia Law Firm, Blevins Franks Financial Planning and the British Consulate.

Questions such as “how quickly is a funeral required”, “what happens to our bank accounts”, “what if we want our remains to be repatriated” and “what kind of Will do we need” will be answered during the seminars to be held next month in Cascais and the Algarve.

The speakers will cover subjects that revolve around what happens when someone dies in Portugal, particularly focusing on those who may have repatriation issues and other legalities to consider.

Topics range from the initial acts required on death – what to do and who to contact; the types of funerals in Portugal; cremation, interment and repatriation; the legal aspect of wills, living wills and organ donation; funeral plans; inheritance tax issues and lessening the tax burden on dependents.

The seminar in Cascais will be held on May 9 at the Casa de Santa Maria at 2pm (registration at 1.30pm) and in the Algarve on May 16 at the Boavista Golf Clubhouse in Lagos and on May 17 at the Municipal Library in Tavira, both starting at 10.30am (registration at 10am).

Entry is free to afpop members and a charge of €20 will be applicable to non-members, payable at the seminar.
