Portugal has significant gold exploration potential, with current projects valued at around €2.5 billion.
According to Expresso newspaper, gold exploration projects, particularly those in Montemor (Alentejo) and Gralheira/Jales (Trás-os-Montes), represent good economic opportunities.
On a smaller scale but with confirmed technical viability is a tungsten mining project in Tabuaço (Alto Douro) and two iron mines in Torre de Moncorvo, in the north of Portugal.
