Sines refinery has started producing diesel at Galp Energia’s new diesel unit, the largest industrial project in Portugal ever, representing an investment of €1.4 billion.
The new Galp unit aims to increase diesel production over fuel oil.
New refining equipment has been purchased by Galp, which believes it will be able to produce enough diesel fuel to meet the total needs of the Portuguese market and still export it.
Up to now, Portugal had to import diesel and this latest investment is expected to help reduce the national energy bill.
