Depression Dora to bring rain, cold, massive waves and possibly snow to mainland Portugal

After a few wonderful days of sunshine, mainland Portugal is expecting another bout of bad weather due to the arrival of Depression Dora which will bring rain, strong gusts, colder temperatures and possibly even snow to some parts of the country.

The bad weather is expected to begin this Thursday afternoon and continue until at least Saturday, according to the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA).

Rough seas are also forecast, especially along the western coast starting at the end of this afternoon. Massive waves are expected, possibly reaching altitudes between seven and 14 metres.

On Friday, all of Portugal’s coastal districts will be under orange alert except for Leiria and Lisbon, which will be under red alert, the highest.

Meanwhile, high altitude areas could also see some snowfall in the coming days.
