Dentist knifed to death by husband in consulting room

In another horrific outburst of domestic violence, a 28-year-old dentist who had just posted online that she was “looking forward to a new life” was knifed to death in her Lisbon consulting rooms.
According to newspaper reports, the muscle-bound nightclub bouncer husband of Brazilian Luana Camargo did not share his former partner’s enthusiasm for divorce.
Armed with a knife, he is reported to have entered her clinic, in full view of staff and patients, and killed her in her office.
He then left the Odonto Riso dentist’s, wrote Correio da Manhã newspaper, but was so keen “to make sure his wife was dead” that he called the main number on his mobile to check for certain.
“Hearing the positive reply, he said: ‘What good news you have given me’, before hanging up,” said the paper.
This latest cruel death brings the number of women killed this year at the hands of their husbands/lovers or former partners to a shocking 18. That is more than four a month – a new record. Figures last year averaged three deaths per month, and a total of 37 for the year.
Wednesday’s daytime murder also served to send shockwaves through the neighbourhood, which is on the tourist trail through the capital.
Forty-year-old Marco Camargo, described as a man who liked going to the gym and was “just muscles”, emerged into the bustling Rua Augusta with his hands and clothes clearly marked with blood.
The “brutal crime” thus attracted the attention of many people, wrote CM, although Camargo made no attempt to try and get away. Instead he sat on the terrace of a nearby café drinking coffee until police came to arrest him.
Only hours before, his wife had posted a message on Instagram saying: “I am not afraid of change. Good things go so that better things can follow.”
The young woman is reported to have walked out of the couple’s seven-year relationship the night before, saying she wanted a divorce.
