Latest data coming out of INSA (public health institute Dr Ricardo Jorge) is that the frequency of the Delta variant in Portugal is 98.9%, rising to 100% in Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo, the Algarve, Alentejo and autonomous regions of Azores and Madeira. The data, taking the country to August 1, follows analysis of 13,807 genomic sequences from samples collected from more than 100 laboratories, hospitals and institutions, representing 298 municipalities in the country. The frequency of other variants (Beta and Gamma) is low and this far “without tendency to increase”. There has been no indication of any kind of transmission of the Lambda variant (originating from Chile/ Peru).
