Delays at Portimonense stadium

Redevelopment work at the Portimonense stadium, due to be completed by the end of this month, will now be finished in December.

According to the club, which won promotion of the Portuguese top division for this season, the first game is scheduled to be on December 5 against Sporting Lisbon.

Until then, the team will continue playing at the Algarve Stadium (see Algarve Resident September 17 edition).

The delay is due to the discovery of a water channel in the area where a new grandstand is being built.

The new stand will hold 3,000 people and will costs 800,000 Euros.

In addition, other improvements were imposed by the Portuguese Professional Football League, valued at another 1.2 million Euros.

Portimão Câmara is helping to finance part of this work.

“In the end, the stadium will be almost like new,” said a spokesman from Portimão Câmara.
